Steph Gilmore Roxy Pro Biarritz Winner And Five Times World Champion Boom!

Like Kelly Slater in 99, Steph Gilmore took a year out and people said well thats that then. Great talent but all over what a shame. But surfing keeps brining us these re-inventions. I’m sure Layne Baechley will be watching with interest as Steph steps back into the lime light and claims world title number five. And in all honesty it looks a bit like when Layne was at her peak. Steph stands head and shoulders above the rest. Yes there are new hot talents emerging. But boy do they have a mountain to climb if they are to approach the the lofty position which Steph occupies. Conditions were not the best in Biarritz area, but with some on-shore chunks coming through the best were able to pick their way through to the good ones. Sally Fitz dropped in the quarters and her world title hopes were over. Tyler Wright keeps going from strength to strength as the Wright dynasty continues to populate world surfing with talent and she crashed her way to the finals. But Steph surfed like it didn’t matter and threw a layback that sat her firmly back into the world championship throne. Boogie all night? I think so… Cue the music
